Toner FAQS

What is the difference between High Quality Compatibles versus other Compatibles?

What is the difference between High Quality Compatibles versus other Compatibles?

First, a High Quality Compatible is only remanufactured one time.  In other words, an empty OEM cartridge can be refilled many times but High Quality Compatible manufacturers will only do this once.  Second, High Quality Compatibles utilize Grade A Components and Toners that are scientifically tested and matched to duplicate OEM standards as closely as possible.  All drums are replaced and not just recoated.  All other components such as wiper blades, doctor blades and primary charge rollers are inspected and replaced as needed.  Every gear, screw and spring are inspected and replaced as needed.  Most importantly, each and every cartridge is tested post-manufacture to assure you receive a working product every time.

What is the white or black tab on the end of my cartridge?

What is the white or black tab on the end of my cartridge?

This is the seal.  The seal keeps toner from spilling into the box during shipping.  To remove the seal, simply hold the cartridge firmly, face the seal (tab) away from you, grasp the seal and pull it straight out away from the cartridge.  The seal may be hard to pull at first but it is necessary to completely remove it in order for the cartridge to work properly.  It is normal for a small amount of toner to spill out when you remove the seal.

What is the shelf life of my toner cartridge?

What is the shelf life of my toner cartridge?

The shelf life of a Compatible Cartridge is the same as the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).  Cartridges usually have a shelf life of 20-24 months if kept in the proper conditions:  Store in a cool, dry location and keep the cartridge out of extreme temperatures.  These steps will help keep your cartridge “fresh” and may lengthen the shelf life.

What is in a toner cartridge?

A toner cartridge is made up of many components in addition to the toner.  There are drums, wiper blades, doctor blades, primary charge rollers, magnetic rollers, gears, screws, springs, and waste toner hoppers.  All these components work together to put the toner on the page.  See schematic below to further illustrate a typical toner cartridge.

What is the difference between OEM and Compatible Cartridges?

What is the difference between OEM and Compatible Cartridges?

There is no noticeable difference between OEM and Compatible Cartridges.  A High Quality Compatible Cartridge goes through a comprehensive process including disassembly, cleaning, filling, component replacement and quality testing.  The cartridges are 100% post-tested to ensure that you receive the highest quality cartridge.

How is page yield determined and will I get the same page yield each time?

How is page yield determined and will I get the same page yield each time?

The page yield is arrived at in most cases by the manufacturer.  Page yield is generally governed by the percentage of toner utilized on each individual page.  Most manufacturers set their yields based upon 5% toner coverage.  If a page is printed and only 5% of that page is covered in print the yield will be reached.  An example of 5% coverage is a letter with a couple of paragraphs and any additional coverage on the page will lower your page yield.  Printing bold text, fine print, legal pages or double sided printing are examples of ways that a page yield may be reduced.
